Division Three: City slip-up

The promotion race continued apace last night with top two Cowdenbeath and Hamilton consolidating their positions, while third-placed Brechin City slipped up.

Leaders Cowdenbeath made no mistake with a 2-1 home win over Montrose. Graeme Brown opened the scoring and John Paul Burns doubled the lead. Andy Hutcheon pulled one back to no avail.

Hamilton made the long journey north to Elgin count with a 3-0 victory. Michael Moore was on the mark with a deadly double and the other came from David McFarlane in the 54th minute.

The men from Lanarkshire remain three points behind Beath but are three points clear of Brechin, who drew 1-1 at Albion Rovers. Kevin Bain's penalty equalised Steve McCormick's opener.
