Brechin boost as promotion rivals slip up

Hamilton and Cowdenbeath's 0-0 draw at Firhill was good news for promotion rivals Brechin, whose home match against Albion Rovers was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Both sides had chances, with Hamilton's David McFarlane firiing over the crossbar in the first half and Graeme Brown missing a second-half sitter for Cowden.

East Fife had to recover from an early setback in their 3-1 win at Elgin where Ryan Green put the home side ahead after only ten minutes.

Steve Kerrigan quickly equalised, Lee Mair put the Fifers ahead and Chris Devine added a third from the penalty spot before the interval.

East Stirling scaped a 1-0 home win over Peterhead in a scrappy encounter, notable only for Steve Hislop's long-range shot being deflected into the net by Gary Higgins for the only goal.

Montrose took revenge on Dum-barton - who had beaten them in midweek - with a 2-1 win at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Andy Hutcheon put Montrose ahead before Paddy Flannery equalised on the interval. But a mistake by keeper John Wight let John Mitchell grab the Montrose winner 14 minutes from time.
